From Berlin to Evanston:
German Historian to celebrate 20th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall in Chicago
Evanston resident Anette Isaacs has big plans for 2009: The German born and raised historian will celebrate her native country´s special anniversary by giving a series of lectures and presentations about "The Rise and the Fall of the Berlin Wall" to Senior Centers, Public Libraries, and private Clubs in Chicago and the suburbs. "When I mention to people that the Berlin Wall fell in 1989, I always get the same reaction: they look at me in utter astonishment and say: `I can´t believe it has already been twenty years!`", says Anette Isaacs and adds: "Well, neither can I! But it is true. On November 9th 2009, Germany and especially Berlin, my hometown for the last 15 years, will celebrate this amazing event that paved the way to German Unification."
Giving lectures and presentations on her native country is nothing new to Anette Isaacs. In the last ten years she has been working as the director for Group IST´s (a New York based travel coordinator) Germany operations. In her capacity as academic and executive director, Ms. Isaacs has created a number of very successful ELDERHOSTEL seminars and programs introducing her native country Germany to thousands of American tourists. An avid opera lover, she has conceived such Elderhostel programs as the Heartland of Classical Music (a study tour of Opera and classical Music in Berlin, Munich, Salzburg and Vienna) and the seminar Opera and Classical Music in Berlin, Dresden, and Leipzig which, since its inception in 2003, has ranked among the most popular programs that Elderhostel offers.
Her Opera seminar proved to be not only successful from a business standpoint: It was here that in 2003 the young woman met her future husband, a Chicagoan. They got married in early 2005 and Ms. Isaacs took up residence in Evanston not long thereafter. Her love of teaching and history inspired her last year to create "anette isaacs-- let´s talk about germany!" (www.anetteisaacs.com). "I had given my talks on various German historical, social, political, and cultural topics in Berlin to countless Americans and I thought it would be a great idea to teach them about Germany in their own country. Traveling has become a bit difficult due to the current economic situation-- so by attending my lectures here in Chicagoland people can still learn and educate themselves without having to fly across the Atlantic."
The following appearances have already been scheduled in Public Libraries:
March 23, 7 p.m. at the Highland Park Public Library (presented by the Highland Park Historical Society)
April 19, 2 p.m. at the Northbrook Public Library
May 6, 7 p.m. at the Deerfield Public Library
Information on Ms. Isaacs´ presentations in Senior Centers and Museums and how to book her as a speaker can be found on: www.anetteisaacs.com

WOW!
